John Yeackle is a husband, father, businessman, and public servant who has called Uvalde County home for decades. He understands the values of hard work, responsibility, and community – because he has lived them every day.
As a small-business owner, John has created jobs, met payroll, and navigated tough economic times. As a public servant, he has focused on cutting taxes, respecting taxpayers, and making government work smarter, not bigger.
Business Background
John's business career spans more than 25 years, giving him real-world experience with budgets, hiring, and customer service.
Owner, Uvalde Golden Chick (1996 - 2021)
Owner, Uvalde Subway (1999 - 2024)
Owner, Bottle 'N Bag (2005 - 2012)
This hands-on experience shaped his belief that every dollar should be treated with respect – because he knows how hard people work to earn it.
Dedicated Public Service
Before entering local government, John served as a police officer in New Mexico (1994–1996), gaining firsthand experience in public safety and community protection.
He later served as a Uvalde City Councilman from 2004–2010, where he:
-
Helped reduce taxes five times in six years
-
Was instrumental in drafting and passing the City of Uvalde’s first term limits
In 2020, voters elected John as Uvalde County Commissioner, Precinct 1. In that role, he has:
-
Consistently voted to reduce county tax rates
-
Focused on responsible budgeting and protecting core county services
